Initial Parent Consultation

Prior to the Initial Parent Consultation I will send you an Intake Form to complete and return to me ASAP.  In this Initial Parent Consultation the parent and I will have our first opportunity to meet one another. Firstly,  in this meeting I would love to hear all about your child, your family, and the concerns you have which have caused you to seek this support.  Please know that in this meeting there is no judgment from me and I am here to support you as much as I am here to support your child.  Secondly, I will take some time to explain the play therapy process so that you know what to expect.  We will discuss goal setting and I will explain how we track the play therapy progress. Our consultation will end with an opportunity for you to ask any questions you might have.

Therapy Sessions

Play therapy sessions are 45 minutes in duration and they will usually occur on a weekly basis throughout the school term. Sessions are conducted in the child’s school or home, with the session location being discussed during the Initial Parent Consultation. Sessions conducted at school require consultation with school staff and take into consideration the child’s schedule and will work around lunch and recess breaks.

Parent Consultations

Parent involvement and consultation is a critical part of the child’s growth and healing. As their primary attachment figure, you have the most influence over this process.  Parent consultations are 1 hour in duration and should ideally take place following every 5th play therapy session.  The purpose of these sessions is to discuss concerns, observations, progress and generally for us both to get curious about what we are seeing.  This time might also include some education pieces as well as discussion of some new ideas and suggestions to try at home to support your child’s big behaviours.
